Christine and Raoul shuffled onto the stage. He, in a cape billowing like a wind sock, she in a dress that could house a small family of canaries.
"Ready, mon amour?" Raoul rasped, tripping over his own feet. Christine, ever the trooper, winked. "Let's waltz them into cardiac arrest."
The music swelled, but instead of a graceful glide, Raoul launched into a bizarre jig. Christine, caught in the chaos, spun like a top, her canary dress erupting in a flurry of feathers.
Christine and Raoul continued to waltz, their steps as erratic as their love, proving that even in the grandest opera, sometimes the most beautiful music is the one born out of pure, ridiculous joy.
