Louis Rhead

Louis Rhead (Louis John Rhead; 1857 – 1926) was a British illustrator, poster artist, author and angler, who emigrated to the USA as an adult. He was known for his contributions to the Art Nouveau movement. His art style is characterised by elaborate line work, stylised figures, and rich decorative elements, often drawing on themes from literature and mythology. Rhead primarily used ink and watercolour, employing a technique that combined the fluidity of Art Nouveau with the narrative depth of traditional illustration. His work is associated with the Golden Age of Illustration, where he played a key role in bringing the Art Nouveau aesthetic to the USA, influencing poster design and book illustration during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
