Behind Dean Ernest Pantlewaythe icy gaze was a sternness that did not detract in the least from his genius. Unable to feel any empathy toward us students, his lectures, however, were enlightening. Although he took no interest in explaining or making himself intelligible, it was through him that I first understood the workings of interrupted gas concentrations, the aeonic pulsations of liquid metals, and what later became my field of choice: psychotic reverberation derived from the time paradox.
