This is my 2nd image of a plasma rocket propelled spacecraft. Between the 2, this is more realistic given our present technology.

Because the precise scale is left to the imagination, a similar spacecraft might accomplish a roundtrip mission to and from Mars.

This variant uses both nuclear power & solar energy. Antimatter in the form of positrons (antielectrons) may make the plasma rocket more efficient. Also, this spacecraft likely carries a much smaller crew.

Requiring 100-megawatts, or more, total nuclear powerplant output is still likely, though.

Methinks, using helium as a main coolant, plus using a modified pebble bed nuclear reactor, are feasible options. Xenon would be a viable propellant.

I'm considering using isotopically enriched krypton as a coolant so as to harvest a particular, radioactive isotope. Th-232 plus U-233 may be a viable fuel mixture to lower weight plus increase safety.
