James Thatcher. Detective for the Blackmoor Police Department. I was born on a farm outside or east Fartown. But we weren’t really farmers, we were tenants on our land, a land owned by the corporations.

Ghosts of our ancestors who had owned the land for hundreds of years, lost to copyright crops and crooked lawyers. The law was never made to protect us. We weren’t generational farmers, we were just pebbles in the heels of giants.

I had dreams, big dreams, of seeing the world. Changing it. At 18, as bright eyed naive kid, I was gleefully recruited into the military. By 19, I was part of the Orbital Drop Defense Force. I spent more time jumping out of planes than being in them. At the end of my ten year stint, I ended up stationed at Blackmoor, and like most everyone else in this city, never left.

After the military, I joined the BPD. I figured if I couldn’t change the world, I could at least settle for changing the city.

I should’ve known changing the world would have been easier.
