Angel

He sat on the edge of the rooftop, looking down at the city lights. He felt a pang of sadness as he sensed the life force of his human fading away. He had been his guardian angel for over seventy years, watching over him from birth to death. He had seen him grow up, fall in love, have children, and grow old. He had protected him from harm, comforted him in sorrow, and rejoiced with him in happiness. He had loved him as his own.

Now, he had to say goodbye.

He could hear their prayers and their tears. He wished he could comfort them, but he knew it was not his place. He was only there for one person.

He entered the room invisibly, and approached the bed. He touched his human’s forehead gently, and whispered in his ear.

“It’s time to go, my friend. Don’t be afraid. I’m here with you.”
