I was free. My muscles pounded and stretched, carrying me swiftly through the woods. Wind flowed through my thick fur, shaping it to Cailleach’s will. The sharp words of people’s unkind opinions could not reach me here. I was safe, in nature’s warm embrace.

The scents of creatures within my vicinity reached me, swirling around me and sending me signals that I would not receive if I were to be clothed in the body of a human. Each scent trail was visible, a tangible line leading to its source. The forest pulsed with Cernunnos’s stong magick, guiding its inhabitants either astray or to where their intended path led, depending on the Morrigan’s choices of fate.

My paws made no sound against the thick veins of plants that coated the forest floor as I ran, leaping over fallen logs and plunging beneath overhanging branches that created small caverns of organic, living matter. The world around me was breathing, leaves fluttering to the ground in preparation for the cold winter to come. Soft paws skittered beneath leaves, dashing unseen in this wild expanse of beauty and life. Small creatures delved within the ground, their claws piercing earth’s flesh just like my pickaxe. My heart thrummed in my chest, pounding in tune with the rhythm of my paws. The moon was visible above the expanse of foliage above me, it’s pale silver lustre illuminating the sky. A circular burning lantern, alight beside the glimmering stars.
