Ralph Steadman

Ralph Steadman (Ralph Idris Steadman; 1936 – ) is a British artist renowned for his sharp and often grotesque political and social caricatures, illustrations, and cartoon art. Steadman rose to fame for his collaborations with journalist Hunter S. Thompson from the USA, inventing a splattered, anarchic style that became emblematic of the Gonzo journalism movement. His approach utilises a frenetic technique of ink splashes and chaotic lines, which effectively convey intense emotion and biting satire. Steadman’s work frequently challenges societal norms and politics, maintaining a poignant commentary through his art.
