The Tapanuli orangutan (part 1)

The Tapanuli orangutan (Pongo tapanuliensis) is critically endangered due to habitat loss, primarily from illegal logging and palm oil plantations, which fragment and reduce its rainforest home in Sumatra. These activities threaten the orangutan's food sources and living space, leading to increased human-wildlife conflict and poaching. As of recent estimates, there are fewer than 800 individuals left in the wild, making conservation efforts crucial for their survival.
