Echo (Maya Lopez)

Floriana Lima

Floriana Lima brings a razor-edged intensity to Maya Lopez, grounding Echo as a precision-built street-level powerhouse. Her version of Maya moves with the fluid certainty of someone who studies the world in silence and sees everything—body language, motion, intention—before it happens. Lima’s sharp, expressive physicality makes Echo feel like a dancer and a fighter at the same time, a woman shaped by trauma, discipline, and the need to understand the truth behind every blow she throws.

In this universe, Maya’s story centers on the raw, comic-accurate version of Echo: a deaf martial artist raised on the edges of crime and justice, marked by the iconic white handprint across her face. She is fiercely intelligent, intensely observant, and defined by a personal code that makes her just as dangerous to allies as to enemies. What emerges is a hero who doesn’t rely on powers—only mastery, instinct, and the stubborn will to stand alone when she must.

This image depicts Echo (Maya Lopez) in a cinematic portrait. She wears a tactical suit with tribal patterns and wields twin batons, ready for action in an urban night setting.

Oh, this is good! And so is that little rhyme!! "The goatish desires of the camel..." yes, that is altogether too accurate. I watched a short documentary some years back about Arabs love (nothing indecent) for camels and for camel racing. Part of it was about male camels in rut. It gave me a dislike for them - not the females who are excellent mothers and nurse the calf for a long time. But males can exhibit strong aggressive behaviour during rut and are generally roped and tied in individual pens. They're dangerous even to their handlers, to young camel calves and even to females who aren't pregnant but still tending to their calf. Of course, it will vary among different males but generally dangerous enough to keep all males tied up at such time. Have you ever heard of the male's*dulla*? If you haven't, look it up. I know it's perfectly normal but I find it both gross and laughable.

Thank you. I had heard of the dulla, but never seen it, and forgot what it was called.

I have no idea what the original version of the rhyme was, or where/when it came from, but would take a bet that it arose in British army mess halls in the eastern Med during the Arab Revolt / First World War. The first version I encountered was in a book by James Leasor (Never Had a Spanner on Her) about shipment of luxury cars from Nasser's Egypt.

It was inspired by @Eogon 's latest game involving the Nile. My submission is altogether far less tongue-in-cheek, although hopefully still a little different.

*The goatish desires of the camel*
*Are more urgent than anyone thinks.*
*He's said, in the heat of the moment,*
*To have tried his luck with the Sphinx.*

*Now we know the Sphinx's posterior features*
*To be obscured by the sands of the Nile;*
*Which accounts for the humph of the camel,*
*And the Sphinx's inscrutable smile.*

This is a (hopefully) SFW variation of a rhyme that exists in several versions, revised to avoid obvious automoderator triggers. The original, and its author, are unknown to me.
