Tajik folk wisdom: "Tell me who you are, and I'll tell you how much you're worth."

This is the first illustration in a series on Tajik proverbs and sayings. As is often the case with our proverbs, this saying is full of irony and sarcasm. In other words, our elders meant that you should never speak unnecessarily about yourself: a person is like a book, locked with a padlock from strangers, let them guess what's in it. You won't lose anything anyway: if people treat you better than your real status demands, you'll profit, and if worse, you can always hit them in the face when the opportunity arises🤗
