Patterns of Violence

The attacks in Darfur were largely ethnic-based, targeting non-Arab groups such as the Fur, Masalit, and Zaghawa. Militias burned homes, destroyed crops, and killed livestock to prevent communities from returning. Many civilians fled to refugee camps in Sudan and neighboring Chad.
