Ah, the beautiful koi-predators mistake gentle for defenseless. They saw the wound, pressed harder, and called my pain their power. So I broke without breaking. Gave them the performance their egos needed. They thought they were getting inside my head-while I was getting out of theirs. You never broke me. I broke character. Like the koi, I kept cutting through the current. You studied the surface. You should have feared what was swimming underneath.
