"You're amazing."

You're sitting on a bench near a lake, eyes closed, when you feel the bench sink slightly. Someone's sat next to you. You open your eyes to look at the person. It's a boy from your school. His head is turned to the lake, but you can see that he's looking at you through the corner of his eye. "Hi," he says timidly as you sit up. You wonder what he's doing. "Um, I saw you and I..." he continues, "I wanted to talk to you. You know, to keep you company." You appreciate the gesture, but you'd wanted some alone time. He looks back out at the lake. "I mean... you're really cool. Like... you're amazing. I've always looked up to you. You make others so happy..." he flushes suddenly, looking at his sneakers. "I was wondering... can we be friends?" You nod, a bit confused. He smiles at you, then says? "Sorry, I gotta get going." He then walks away, waving goodbye without turning his head.
