The ascent, like everything else in that parallel world, was infinitely long, but at the same time seemed to last only a few minutes, and cost them no effort. An instant before passing through the portal opened in the vault of the cavern, the expedition leader turned to look down. The blanket of fog was lost to infinity, enveloping the inconceivable organic structures as large as castles. In the distance, a reddish glow was lost, hinting only at the immense vastness of the space they had traversed. "Let's go," he said.
