I was a middle aged man when I accepted this position.. how time flies. I know before very long I shall have to retire.. but I do not believe my daughter will accept leaving Quor and I cannot leave her.. so it seems I shall never return to Almecca.
The new emperor is brash and demanding. She even suggested that I follow her father into the desert, as elderly rulers do in this harsh land. Perhaps I should, rather than decay into dotage. My replacement has been studying under me for 8 years, a fine shrewd diplomat, Gravin Pentrakos, from an ancient family of great influence. I feel the position is safe in his hands.

Excellent characterisation, fine detail ♥️👌I like the texture of his cowel/Cape, the highlighting suggests dusty cobwebs. Always better to see such a portrait where the subject is thus engaged in some manner; and here, the narrative delivers the essence of memoire. The period style first person sage narrative, also puts me in mind of Hilary Mantel (Wolf Hall) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐💫
