Jumped off an impasto style prompt by @tchris82 and moved fairly distant from his beach running horse. After starting there I keyed in on the artist from the original Nightmare card art in Magic the Gathering for a bit of subject inspiration too, but neither of those pieces actually had a horse galloping in the clouds.
As for the title, in my mind, the Nightmare is the one who brings the terror to your dreams, but is beautiful in her arrival to bring the horror.
Today was a good challenge, with the usual very high quality in the entries. The only downside was the fact that, for the first time in a long while, there were very few of us--only 99 submissions.
Is our "golden age" coming to an end? Or was it just a lazy spring Sunday? We will find out only by living, to paraphrase a famous Italian song.
