Pen Pals - A Friendship So Close Yet So Far

Poem:
So close, yet so far
So far, yet so close
So beautiful, yet so difficult
So difficult, yet so beautiful.
That’s how one would describe this friendship
Where I can’t hold onto you
Where our embraces can’t get through,
Where tears and smiles and laughter are unseen,
Where every day
I can only dream
Of seeing you in person
Of knowing you in person
Of having you in person.
Until then,
Let’s count the constellations
Let the stars align
Let’s talk through these letters
Word by word
Time by time.
And so what if we’re cities apart?
States apart?
Countries apart?
A whole continent apart?
Even if you were in outer space
I promise you I’ll wait
Moments shared through pen scribbles
Yes, it’s all worth the wait.
You are worth it, my friend.
Even if I can’t take your hand.
You are worth it my friend.
Even if we’re separated forever by life’s tricky plan.
Just know that I’ll be here
A piece of paper away
And that this friendship
Is here to stay.
Love,
Your Pen Pal.
