Anxiety

One day, everything is fine. Life is normal, good even. You have a good job, friends, hobbies, and you’re independent. Things are good, the sun shines, and you think: I’m happy.
Then, something begins. An unknown feeling. Random fears. A shadow lurking at the edge of your thoughts.
You’re falling asleep. It’s peaceful. Until it isn’t.
You’re in the realm between wakefulness and sleep, and you begin to shake. Why? You’re in your bed, the safest place in the world, yet suddenly, you feel the way you did when your favorite person suddenly ceased to exist. When you got the news.
A sense of doom. Heart racing. Cold sweat running down your back. Is everyone you know okay? Your father? Your friends? The world?
Small moments plague your thoughts. The day you didn’t understand what the lady wanted, so you didn’t help her. Something you said to your mother when you were ten. A teacher who belittled you. Bullies in high school.
Life is dark. You’re constantly in fight or flight mode. Why? No one knows.
So you seek help. You climb mountains while anxiety follows. Chases. It tries to pull you back. And sometimes, it does. But other days, despite the fears…
You reach the sun.
