I remember watching Disney's Alice in Wonderland as a young child and not understanding the movie in any way.  So Alice in Wonderland has always represented something I would expect to be a bit off the rails.  The Cheshire cat from the movie seems to be the most memorable of the characters for me.

I read the books as a child. Old ones that belonged to my grandmother. The illustrations were creepy. It was kind of a dark book as I recall it. As a cat lover, the Cheshire cat was my favorite. 

As a child, I inherited a copy of my grandfather's set of five Edgar Allen Poe stories and would read them when I was too sick to go to school.  I am not sure if that qualifies for having a good time, but I do feel nostalgia for those times and stories.
