The half-elf leaned against the rough stone wall, feeling its chill seep into his bones. He missed the warmth and vitality of his woodland home, where he could hear the birdsong and the rustle of leaves. He strained his ears to catch any sound of his captors, the brutish orcs who had ambushed him in the dark alley. He wondered what foul god had spawned such vile creatures, who reveled in bloodshed and cruelty. He had no love for the other races who dwelled in this city, this den of vice and corruption that had lured him with promises of gold and glory. He cursed his own folly for falling prey to the infernal corruption.
