Short Story: The Cabin (3)

The old woman stared at them with her piercing blue eyes. "What do you want?" she snapped at them. Her voice seemed to carry in the wind, and rang in their ears long after she spoke. Lena spoke, "Um, Hi ma'am, sorry to bother you. We didn't mean to disturb you, we just were out hiking and came across your cabin. We -" The old woman cut her off. "You need to leave. You don't belong here. Go away." Loud whispers seem to leak from every inch of the cabin, and the old woman seemed to turn her head to listen for a moment. Her eyes glazed over as if in a trance. Tommy and Lena looked one another. "Lena, come on" Tommy said. He started reaching towards Lena to grab her hand and draw her away from the cabin. Suddenly the old woman snapped her head back at the sound of his voice. "Oh, I am sorry. I don't get many visitors, and I have forgotten my manners. Please forgive my outburst. Won't you come in for a cup of tea?" The woman then turned back into the cabin, leaving the door open wide.--
