John Bratby

John Bratby (1928 – 1992) was a British painter and a leading figure in the Kitchen Sink School, a movement focused on depicting the gritty realities of post-war Britain. His style is characterised by bold brushwork, intense colour, and a focus on everyday subjects such as domestic interiors, working-class life, and urban landscapes. Bratby primarily worked with oil paints on canvas, employing a raw, expressive technique that conveyed the struggles and resilience of ordinary people. His art is a vivid reflection of mid-20th-century British life, blending realism with a personal, energetic vision.
