Finding an Injured Dragon

"It's alright, I'm here to help," she said, slowly walking towards the snared beast with her hands held out in front of her, palm out.

A firm, but pain-filled voice suddenly filled her mind. "I do NOT need your help, human."

She paused. "You're trapped, injured, and can't fly. How are you expecting to get away from the Wing Snatchers if you don't let me help?"

The dragon sniffed and looked away. "I'll manage."

"How?" she questioned again. He had no other recourse but to trust her. He was flightless and bound, and she could hear the hounds in the valley baying to be released.

"I'm coming over now," she said after a moment's silence. "Please don't flame me."

"Oh, I will most assuredly flame you."

"You'll feel better once I heal you."

"Maker save me from rash humans and their ideals!" The voice in her head as she kept advancing was bemused and irritated. "Get back, little human, I'm a dangerous beast." He huffed a small cloud of steam as if to prove his point.
