**Jessie Willcox Smith** (1863 – 1935) was an artist from the USA, best known for her contributions to children’s book illustrations. She was a significant figure in the Golden Age of Illustration of the USA, and her work is often associated with Romanticism and Impressionism. Smith’s artistic style was heavily influenced by her studies under the renowned artist Howard Pyle. She worked in mixed media, using oil, watercolour, pastels, gouache, and charcoal, depending on the desired effect. Her illustrations, often featuring children, were popular in numerous magazines and advertising campaigns during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
