Gerald Scarfe

Gerald Scarfe (Gerald Anthony Scarfe; 1936 – ) is an English cartoonist and illustrator known for his distinctive and often grotesque style. His work, which includes editorial cartoons for The Sunday Times and illustrations for The New Yorker, is characterised by savagely grotesque portraits of politicians and other public figures. Scarfe’s art is often associated with the rock music group Pink Floyd. His technique involves a wide range of subject matter and distortion, with some portraits being quite realistic while others are wildly distorted. Scarfe’s work is often characterised by dark and grotesque images, a result of his loneliness and asthma during his childhood. He has stated that the irreverence apparent in much of his work can be traced back to his early life experiences. His work spans various mediums, including drawing and animation.
