Valkyrja… chooser of the slain

My Norse myths and Sagas collection:

The beautiful Valkyrja, plural Valkyrjur, roughly translated to “chooser of the slain”

Women of noble extraction who are apparently human or jotnar (not a different species) who take on a mantle of employment to the God Odin, which makes them in turn the creature that is more than human… which makes them the Valkyrjur!!

Throughout the sagas and myths, the Valkyrjur are often mentioned in a wide variety of stories, but mainly known as their name suggests.. they fly over and search the battlefield for fallen warriors who died in battle, to bring them to Valhǫll (hall of the slain), which is considered Odin’s hall. Here he gathers warriors to fight for him in his army once Ragnarök falls upon them..

It is believed the Valkyrjur wore a mantle or skin, made of feathers giving them a swan like appearance..
