Ada Lovelace, born Augusta Ada Byron, is celebrated as one of the pioneering figures in the history of computational sciences. As the daughter of the poet Lord Byron, Lovelace was exposed to a blend of literary and scientific education, unusual for women of her time. She is best known for her work on Charles Babbage's early mechanical general-purpose computer, the Analytical Engine.

Her most significant contribution is often considered to be her notes on Babbage's engine, where she described what is now recognized as the first algorithm intended to be carried out by a machine. Because of this, she is frequently credited as the world's first computer programmer.
