Ernst Ludwig Kirchner

Ernst Kirchner (Ernst Ludwig Kirchner; 1880 – 1938) was a German Expressionism painter and printmaker and one of the founders of the artists group Die Brücke (The Bridge). Kirchner's work is noted for its intense emotionality and vigorous, bold brushwork, which helped define the German Expressionism movement. His art captures the angst and dynamism of the early 20th century, particularly in his depictions of urban street scenes and unspoiled landscapes. Kirchner’s use of vivid colours and the raw, primitive qualities of his figures reflect his desire to convey emotional responses rather than physical realities.
