Helena got through the night without incident. She awoke and prayed, but prayer did not come easy that morning. Today was the feast of St. Nuno of St. Mary, a Portuguese soldier who became a Carmelite brother after a profound conversion. Helena revered the saint highly as they had similar backgrounds.
Helena was distracted by her nightmare and Larkin’s warmth to her after the nightmare was over.
“If only he knew,” she thought. “Lord, help me.”
She began to dress in her habit, having her black t-shirt and green BDU pants on in case the need arose.
“Lord, clothe me in your grace, Mother Mary cover me with your mantle.”
She kissed the edge of her scapular and prayed. “Use me.”

She went into the refectory and chose a bacon omelet and beans that had come from a British ration pack, made herself a cup of coffee and looked for a place to sit.
The Seabees were at a table by themselves. Fairbairn and Flynn were discussing something scientific (it sounded like something about the Aurora). Bjornson was talking with D.J., Murphy, McGuire, and Cate. Artois and Bergalio were talking amongst themselves. Will had eaten already and was settling his team in the dormitory.
Larkin was sitting all by himself.
Helena tried to sit somewhere else, but Larkin waved to her.
“Sister, I’ve got room here. Will you join me?”
Helena hesitated for a moment and then sat down across from him.
“Good morning, Sister,” he said cheerfully.
“Good morning, Colonel,” Helena replied hesitantly.
“How did you sleep?”
“A bit better. Thank you for asking.”
