La Llorona, the Weeping Woman

La Llorona, or "The Weeping Woman," is a ghostly figure from Mexican folklore. Legend says she drowned her children in a fit of rage and grief after being abandoned by her lover. Filled with remorse, she wanders riverbanks and waterways, crying for her lost children. Her haunting wails can be heard at night, and it is said that she captures children to replace her own.
