Clara had been fumbling with the TARDIS’s controls for the better part of an hour, not quite revealing what she was up to. 

Last time Ashildr checked, the TARDIS had been functioning quite normally (for what passed as normal with a living time machine), but Clara had been restless for some time regardless. 

After the strange encounter with the Nilians, time had passed in a remarkably unadventurous way which was not its regular habit and had not definitely not been since they had _borrowed_ their TARDIS on Gallifrey. Clara must have felt that extraordinary lack of adventure and Ashildr suspected she might start to actively search for trouble this time.

02/ Lost in thought

*That impossible girl*, she thought. They had spent a few long weeks on a beautiful planet with a very favorable coastline to sea ratio, before Clara had begun getting restless. Ashildr agreed to their trip so that Clara could visit Lucy Eyelesbarrow and Jane Reynolds but had found herself quite glad that Clara went to see them on their own - in hot pursuit of Caten of course, once again. 

After this little excursion into their last big adventure, both had felt a little unsure of where to go. Ashildr enjoyed taking a breath and having no rush to dive headlong into danger but she sensed that Clara had trouble bearing this slow life. Maybe she was afraid her heartbeat might indeed stop? *Still, if I’m being honest to myself… I do start to feel a little bored. I’m beginning to question the great names of English literature like Sherlock Holmes, Paul Temple and… hey Clara, what was that funny French detective’s name again?*

03/ Picking up the threads

*Belgian, Ashildr, he was Belgian!* Clara looked up from under the TARDIS’ main console and rolled her eyes before she beamed a smile at her companion. *You’re taking things too serious, again, Ashildr. These stories are great fun, light hearted and just like us.* Ashildr shot her a confused look. *Unrealistic and boring?* 

*No, silly, they’re timeless classics.* Clara laughed before she donned a pair of goggles and began welding something. Suddenly, she stopped, shot up from under the console, and raised an eyebrow. *You haven’t been brought up with these books, have you?*
