The secretion is applied to small burns or punctures on the skin, leading to intense reactions including nausea, vomiting, sweating, and sometimes diarrhea, which are believed to detoxify the body and restore balance.

Despite its traditional use, kambo's safety is controversial. While some users report positive effects, the experience can be harsh and may pose significant risks, including severe physical reactions. As a result, it is crucial to approach kambo with caution and ideally under the guidance of a knowledgeable practitioner.
