đź–Ľ Let's Say Goodbye to 1:1 Thumbnails! đź–Ľ
Dear NightCafe Staff,
We’re writing to you as a community of loyal, enthusiastic and thoroughly addicted users — the kind of people who generate images at impossible hours, debate models as if they were sports teams, and can now identify Seedream, Flux, GPT, Nano Banana Pro or Z‑Image from a single pixel.
We come with a small but meaningful request: please free the thumbnails from the 1:1 format.
There was a time when the square made sense. Back in the SDXL‑only era, it was tidy, predictable, almost zen.
But today, with your (our) platform offering models capable of every imaginable aspect ratio — cinematic 16:9, tall portraits, panoramic landscapes, ultra‑wide experiments — the forced square thumbnail feels a bit like the fax machine: respectable, nostalgic, but no longer the best tool for the job.
The issue is simple: square thumbnails cut, hide, and flatten our creations. They show a fragment, not the artwork.
And because of that, many beautiful pieces go unnoticed simply because their preview doesn’t reflect what they truly are.
We’ve reached the point where many of us routinely add little disclaimers under our posts, such as:
“16:9 format — please click to view full image”
“Vertical format — open to see it properly”
“Not a square, I promise — click!”
It has become a kind of collective ritual — charming, yes, but also a sign that something isn’t working as well as it could. An artwork shouldn’t need a footnote just to be seen.
So we kindly ask you to consider adding support for thumbnails that match the actual aspect ratio of the image. Nothing revolutionary — just a small improvement that would have a huge impact:
better browsing experience
more visibility for creators
clearer, more engaging galleries
fewer hidden masterpieces
and no more “please click” disclaimers everywhere
We know how much care and attention you put into NightCafe, and we’re confident this feature would fit naturally into the platform’s evolution.
And of course, we’ll be here to test it, use it, love it, and probably overuse it — as we always do.
With appreciation, enthusiasm, and a touch of friendly insistence,
A group of devoted NightCafe users (listed below)
