đź Let's Say Goodbye to 1:1 Thumbnails! đź
Dear NightCafe Staff,
Weâre writing to you as a community of loyal, enthusiastic and thoroughly addicted users â the kind of people who generate images at impossible hours, debate models as if they were sports teams, and can now identify Seedream, Flux, GPT, Nano Banana Pro or ZâImage from a single pixel.
We come with a small but meaningful request: please free the thumbnails from the 1:1 format.
There was a time when the square made sense. Back in the SDXLâonly era, it was tidy, predictable, almost zen.
But today, with your (our) platform offering models capable of every imaginable aspect ratio â cinematic 16:9, tall portraits, panoramic landscapes, ultraâwide experiments â the forced square thumbnail feels a bit like the fax machine: respectable, nostalgic, but no longer the best tool for the job.
The issue is simple: square thumbnails cut, hide, and flatten our creations. They show a fragment, not the artwork.
And because of that, many beautiful pieces go unnoticed simply because their preview doesnât reflect what they truly are.
Weâve reached the point where many of us routinely add little disclaimers under our posts, such as:
â16:9 format â please click to view full imageâ
âVertical format â open to see it properlyâ
âNot a square, I promise â click!â
It has become a kind of collective ritual â charming, yes, but also a sign that something isnât working as well as it could. An artwork shouldnât need a footnote just to be seen.
So we kindly ask you to consider adding support for thumbnails that match the actual aspect ratio of the image. Nothing revolutionary â just a small improvement that would have a huge impact:
-
better browsing experience
-
more visibility for creators
-
clearer, more engaging galleries
-
fewer hidden masterpieces
-
and no more âplease clickâ disclaimers everywhere
We know how much care and attention you put into NightCafe, and weâre confident this feature would fit naturally into the platformâs evolution.
And of course, weâll be here to test it, use it, love it, and probably overuse it â as we always do.
With appreciation, enthusiasm, and a touch of friendly insistence,
A group of devoted NightCafe users (listed below)
