Helena went to help Fairbairn with her habit. Once again, the Scot complained as she put the wimple on, though not as badly as the first time. They fitted their earpieces, and Helena paused for a moment in silent prayer before the two women left the monastery.
“Are you ready?” Fairbairn asked.
“I hope so,” Helena replied. Though she was not sure what to say, she remembered the words of the Gospel:
“And you will be led before governors and kings for My sake as a witness before them and the pagans. When they hand you over, do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say. You will be given at that moment what to say.”
Fairbairn placed a reassuring hand on Helena’s shoulder. “You’ll do fine, Sister. And I’ll be right beside you the entire time.”
“Thank you, Izzy,” Helena replied with a grateful smile.
