Well, as I mentioned in the description, the idea came from Brian Daley. I remember, as a kid, reading that Star Wars novel, and honestly being shocked at the idea that some other gunslinger could beat Han Solo to the draw in a fair fight. (I was very young. It felt blasphemous, somehow.) Recently I was asking myself if I wanted to illustrate a scene from one of Daley's novels, and this one came to mind.

A scene from the novel "Han Solo and the Lost Legacy" by Brian Daley. Gallandro, a cold-blooded mercenary who is allegedly the fastest draw in the Galaxy, has generously allowed Han to go for his blaster first -- then Gallandro ended their duel by drawing his own weapon faster and carefully shooting Han in the arm so he dropped his blaster before he was ready to fire. Now Gallandro plans to take him in and collect a bounty that's being offered for live delivery by the Corporate Sector Authority. (And no, don't bother asking me how Han got out of this one. I wouldn't want to spoil it.)
