The Universes We Let Disappear

The thylacine and the Palawa people belonged to the same island ecosystem, connected to the forests, mountains and coastline of Tasmania for thousands of years. The thylacine disappeared after persecution, hunting and colonial transformation of its habitat. At the same time, Palawa communities faced dispossession, violence and attempts to erase their cultural identity. This imagined encounter brings together two survivors of the same historical rupture: a species lost forever and a people whose memory endured.
