Stephan King didn't approve of Williams and several other candidates and Nicholson was Kubrick's first choice for the role.
I think it's a good thing Williams didn't get it. I think his career would have been a lot darker after such a role.
Still, he was so troubled. Such a loss for the world. He was so funny. 😢
