Frances MacDonald

Frances Macdonald (Frances Macdonald MacNair; 1873 – 1921) was a Scottish artist and designer, closely associated with the Glasgow School and the Art Nouveau movement. Macdonald's style is characterised by its symbolic, ethereal quality and the use of stylised, flowing lines. She worked in a variety of media, including watercolours, metalwork, and textiles, often incorporating elements of Celtic mythology and folklore into her designs. Her technique often involved intricate patterns and a harmonious blend of natural and fantastical elements, contributing to the distinctive aesthetic of the Glasgow School. She formed the Glasgow Four within the Glasgow School together with her sister (Margaret Macdonald), husband (James Herbert MacNair), and brother-in-law (Charles Rennie Mackintosh).
