The Morai, also known in english as "the fates" were in greek mythology, three goddesses and personification of the destiny. They had the role of ensure that every being, mortal and divine, lived out their destiny as it was assigned to them by the laws of the universe, for mortals this was represented by a thread spun from a spindle. Generally they were considered to be above even the gods, even Zeus had to respect or their desitions. 

Their roman counterpart is known as Parcae or Fatae, also they have a lot of parallels in different cultures, as the nordic mythology "norns", the celtic matres/matrones, in baltic mythology there is also a female sisters trio in role of the fate, so in hurran mythology the three goddesses Hutena.
