From the writings of Imnif Alvarun
He arrived a fortnight ago, I received him cordially, as I do all guests that behave accordingly, but refused to depart after our visit.
He wishes to apprentice under me he says, his ice blue eyes steady and his smile warm. I grilled him and he does know the craft. I ran him through some distillations and he handles the equipment with alacrity.
I asked him quite simply, "I have no rivals in my research, why should I wish to create one?"
He donned that easy warm smile and said, "How about a riddle? What has two heads, four eyes and can see in every direction at once?"
I scoffed for it was an obvious riddle, "A duo, back to back" I said. His steady eyes sparkled with mirth.
"Indeed. Surely there is room in your experiments for a bit of perspective? I can offer more than assistance, but fresh eyes, new ideas. Just give me a trial run, a few weeks and I guarantee you that I will be able to offer valuable insight."
I agreed, on a trial basis only.
