My mother would dress me in this costume, hand me a pillowcase to collect candy, then drive for hours on a rarely used highway and drop me off here, amongst the desert scrub.
She always picked me up the next morning, brought me fresh clothing and dropped me off at school.
I asked her about it when I was an adult and she simply said that it was a family tradition.
Too bad you couldn't have bagged a snake or two and just climbed in the car. When she asked you what you had in the pillowcase, you could've told her somebody driving by felt sorry for you and gave you candy. When she opened the bag PAYBACK TIME!
