Suffering is part of human existence from birth until death, and every human person suffers in a variety of ways: physically, psychologically, socially, and spiritually. It is an inescapable feature of human existence. In looking for an answer to the “problem of pain,” We must avoid reducing all suffering to a single justification, instead looking at various aspects and meanings of suffering. Reducing suffering to a single solution does not do justice to its complexities. The trouble is that we tend not to get what we want in this life—at least not entirely. Here enters the universal reality of human suffering. We are left unfulfilled in this life, and therefore we suffer. God created man good, in his image and likeness (Genesis 1:26-27).
