Fantasy Plant 34: Burnberry

This plant is found in the deep purgatory and boarder inferno zones of Hadea. It produces berries that look like small pale blue crystals, but which actually have the consistency apple flesh. They have a deeply bitter flavor, but anyone who eats one gains extreme resistance to high temperatures. A single berry provides complete protection up to 3,500 degrees C. for about an hour. It should be noted that this doesn't extend to equipment carried by the protected individual, and so their clothes and most of their gear would be destroyed or greatly weakened. This plant is of great interest to the Empire as the ability to render a person so resistant to heat has innumerable applications, not the least of which is easier exploitation of other Hadean resources. There are currently many alchemical and other magical projects dedicated to finding a way to cultivate them outside the purgatory or inferno zones of Hadea, but with little success so far.
