... In quiet ceremony, Mette helped Elin into the brown dress. She smoothed the fabric down Elin’s back, buttoned each row with calm fingers, adjusted the sleeves.

Then the undercap.

Then the hijab, pinned with quiet precision.

And then, the niqab.

Mette tied it gently, framing Elin’s eyes, folding the fabric down like a hush over the world.

Finally, the flower crown.

It rested lightly atop the scarf, a whisper of color over neutrality. Fragile. Bold. Beautiful.

Elin looked into the mirror.

“I don’t even recognize myself,” she whispered. ...

... Mette stepped beside her. “That’s because you’re not who you were. You’ve stepped into stillness. And into strength.”

Elin turned to her. “Do I look... ready?”

“No,” Mette said softly. “You are ready. You just forgot.”

They stood there in silence, two women veiled in fabric—but open in trust.

And when Elin finally sat down on the floor, breathing calmly behind the niqab, she closed her eyes and said the words she hadn’t dared until now:

“I want to stay like this.”

And Mette, her friend, her witness, her guide, only replied:

“Then let the world wait. You’ve already arrived.” ...

—a delicate crown of dried wildflowers, woven with care: small daisies, lavender sprigs, and soft white baby's breath.

Elin blinked. “What is that?”

Mette smiled behind the veil. “A crown. For the one who finally chooses.”

“You made that?”

“I’ve made many. This one waited for its moment.”

Elin’s throat tightened. “I’m afraid I won’t do it justice.”

“You don’t have to do anything,” Mette said, stepping closer. “You are enough. Now let me clothe what you’ve already become.” ...
