Maruja Mallo (1902–1995) was a Spanish surrealist painter closely associated with the Generation of ’27, a group of avant-garde artists and intellectuals. She blended surrealism with elements of magical realism and social commentary, creating works that explored themes of nature, mythology, and the human experience. Throughout her career, she transitioned from early surrealist compositions to geometric abstraction, always maintaining a deep connection to the rhythms of nature and the essence of Spanish culture.
