Archangel Michael role
He is repeatedly depicted as the “great captain,” the leader of the heavenly hosts, and the warrior helping the children of Israel. Early in the history of the Christian church, he came to be regarded as the helper of the church's armies against the heathen and against the attacks of the Devil. Michael is often also invoked as the patron of worldly powers of force, such as the military and police. All Christians may invoke Michael for protection when they are in harm's way, but I find it imperative to remember that Michael's sword is the sword of righteousness and is drawn only at the directive of God. Ultimately, we pray the St. Michael Chaplet to gain the Archangel's protection in battle, to strengthen our bodies and souls against the powers of evil, and to grow in humility through greater reliance on God and less on ourselves.
