Necromentor

With such a taboo field of study as the raising of the dead and attainment of immortality, you can’t fairly walk down to the nearest bibliotheca arcanum and check out a few volumes on blood magic and demon binding… Instead, the accumulated knowledge of necromancy can be found divided up amongst numerous, small, underground scholastae, each with its own jealously-guarded library of manleather-bound tomes, its own pool of ongoing original research, and indeed its own hierarchy of scholars - academia is always adversarial, even in the study of undeath.

Sometimes you will find a line of lone practitioners as well, each teacher taking but one apprentice at a time. Oftentimes these associations last for centuries, given the unnaturally long lifespans of most necromancers. And so it was for everybody’s favorite death-defiant rogue sorcerer - the subject of “Necromancer Ascendant”:
