He is first introduced in the Rim (open-air prison with a shield around it) & offers the heroine help to find her mate, a Regent, who was purposefully pushed inside by the bad guys. Once that is completed, he vows fealty to her & helps to get her injured mate back home. 

He'll be instrumental in the coming war and will live through it because why kill a great character.  😀
