On the plains of Baluchistan, around 7000–5500 BCE, Mehrgarh farmers shaped India’s first settled life. They stood among goats, barley fields, pottery kilns, and mud-brick homes — sowing the first fields, taming the first herds, beginning the slow turning from wildness to community.
